Reason has an excellent article entitled Iraq Progress Report – Advocates for liberty weigh in after three years HERE.

Pundits answer three questions about Iraq at the three year mark.

1. Did you support the invasion of Iraq?

2. Have you changed your position?

3. What should the U.S. do in Iraq now?

Here are my answers:

1. Did you support the invasion of Iraq? Yes. Given the fear in our country after 9/11 and the case made by the Bush Administration that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction. I remember being told that Saddam was going to give the terrorists nukes or chemicals, and they would come here to the U.S. and attack us with them. I’m just a normal guy trying to get along in the world. Working every day, dealing with mundane issues like keeping my car running and keeping food on the table. I trusted my leaders to tell me the truth and to keep me and my family safe.

2. Have you changed your position? Yes, yes, yes. Now we know there were no weapons of mass destruction. And I firmly believe the Bush Administration knew it too. The excuse that Bush got “bad intelligence” is bullshit. So now it’s been proven that our leaders can’t protect us from terrorists 9/11) and they are liars WMD in Iraq). So there was no need to invade at all. Instead of fighting the real terrorist threat to the U.S., we are mired in this sectarian mess in Iraq. All those soldiers’ lives were wasted. Our leaders should be tried for this crime.

3. What should the U.S. do in Iraq now? We are there now and have to finish the job. Get Iraq back to some sort of functioning country, even if that means breaking it up into three parts. This whole mess really makes the United States look bad to the rest of the world. How would we react if China or Russia invaded a county, killed its citizens, deposed its leader, and then when things got tough left?
